My plans are to plant my 30gallon. The filter is a aqua clear 110, and I will use the yeast diy co2. I am unsure of what plants i want exactly but i do know i want some amazon swords, and java moss. So I was looking for plant recommendations and what bulb will to use for lighting. My stock will consist of 10-20 exodons, and crystal red shrimp. I know what your thinking it wont work. But my plan is to use the crystal red shrimp to mix up the exodons diets. So I will plant the tank first make sure everything is going well. Then I will introduce the crystal red shrimp, and I will breed them till I have about 300. Then I will introduce my exodons. If you have any suggestions or corrects feel free to post them! I will keep my progress shown too when i get started. :D

Alright that idea just makes no sense at all. One, this tank is only 29 gallons, it's not a lake where you can support a breeding population of prey along with predators. Two, it will take a very long time to get 300 shrimp, probably a few years. Even if you added Exodons at that point, they would all be gone in a few days. Three, an AC110 on a 29 is like a mini tsunami inside your tank, it will stir up the substrate and plants and stress any fish/inverts in there. Three, a HOB filter will take all of the CO2 out of the water, making it useless. And lastly, Amazon swords and Java moss are very easy plants that won't even need CO2. Hope this helps.

Ok, if the HOB will take all the co2 out wht filter shld i use?

Wht shld i use instead of a hob?

Wrong a canister would not be his best option. You can mod the impeller on your ac110 to slow down flow, all you have to do is clip it down to just 2 blades. For lighting look for a single pc light which should be enough for most plants. As for food which is the best part of having exo's you can feed them anything from beef chunks to various frozen food.

Canister filters can become nitrate factories, so I would advise against them.
