So after a long search I found a local place that sells pfs. Now I have a tank with LOTS of vallisneria in a fine gravel substrate. The gravel takes forever to vac when I do my water changes and then I have to replant all the plants that get uprooted. My question is if I take out all the gravel and replace it with the pfs will it affect the plants? Pfs should also be a lot easier to clean am I right?

Only anubias on wood and vallisneria but it's a large part of my tank so I didn't want to kill them off.

I have a semi planted tank with pfs and all of the plants are doing great

Too be honest I love sand for plants, for the best growth lay about 1/2 to an inch thick layer of soil under gravel then sand on the top, just make sure you sand isn't too thin or some of the soild may start rising, it grows plants like you wouldn't believe. I would also look into getting an air pump and and some sort of Co2 producer to hook it onto, you don't need one, it's just handy for the planted tank. This may help. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHy4CtmnzeA
I use river sand I get from the hardware store, not very thin and I thought they were bull****ting about it being from an actual river until I found shells and what not in it. Also very easy to wash and $6 for a 20 kg bag. If you can get some of that stuff in your country i'd say go for it.

I've never used soil before I'll have to grab some. I don't think I'll bother with c02 unless I get more difficult plants as mine seem ok without for now. Thanks for the info.

I've got some serious jungles growing in pfs. Will post some pictures later for you if you would like to see them.
