I've got some serious jungles growing in pfs. Will post some pictures later for you if you would like to see them.

yes please. Is it easier to clean than gravel? Do you use soil as well?

In planted tanks you don't normally deeply vacuum the substrate. Normally you leave the substrate alone. Other then skimming the surface to clean any detritus. You only want about 2 to 2 1/2 inches of depth. I'd also recommend mts snail's in the sand substrate as they churn the sand and help it. I don't use anything but pool filter sand. No soil no nothing. Just pfs. I will post pics later from my computer when I get home.

I keep mts in all my tanks and I've always done gravel vac deep in my planted tank as there seems to be so much yuck in it. That's why I thought of changing to pfs so the poop doesn't sink in so much. I accidentally uproot a lot and it takes ages putting everything back. Also pictures will be great thanks.

The reason you dont want to deep gravel vacuum is because all that stuff is food for the plants. Plus anytime you disturb the roots of your plants your hindering growth and establishment in your substrate. All you need to do is lightly skim the top of your substrate with the vacuum.

Here are some of the pictures ive got of a few of my tanks.. All these are done in pool filter sand. I think based on my experience and what ive seen other accomplish, if you follow a proper plan of fertilization (ive seen the best luck with the estimative index method), Proper light amounts for your needs, and if your light amounts require or prefer pressurized Co2 at the proper amount (and good circulation inside the tank)

Hope the pictures illustrate what can be done if all the things ive mentioned are done with proper care.

^Very nice thanks for sharing. I love the heavy planted look. I'm sold I'm going to make the switch when I get back from my holiday. Thanks again for the info you helped a lot.
