I am mostly into peacocks and haps but I have recently started getting a few species of Mbunas. From what I have read they need a little more vegetation in their diet. I feed them NLS and flakes, I sure thats fine but I'm looking for some veggie treats for them. I was thinking of getting some aquatic plants that I can grow in other tanks and then take trimming and throwing them in the mbuna tanks for them to eat. So My question is what is some fast growing aquatic plants that mbunas love to eat? Also what are some good veggies I can buy at the grocery store for them to eat?

I use a home made shrimp / vegetable mix, which is based on Ad Konings recipe. Everyone I know uses some form of this for thier herbivore Malawi Chiclids. You can easily find recipies by doing a quick search on the net.

I dont think I would go with the idea of feeding them plant pieces from a different tank. But it might work, I sometimes give mine some green beans and cucumbers, but they are much more keep on the shrimp mix.

Zuchinni and romain are what I've used.

I feed mine a piece of blanched cucumber or zuchinni every now and then. Other than that. I like to throw in a few algae wafers here and there too.
