I am mostly into peacocks and haps but I have recently started getting a few species of Mbunas. From what I have read they need a little more vegetation in their diet. I feed them NLS and flakes, I sure thats fine but I'm looking for some veggie treats for them. I was thinking of getting some aquatic plants that I can grow in other tanks and then take trimming and throwing them in the mbuna tanks for them to eat. So My question is what is some fast growing aquatic plants that mbunas love to eat? Also what are some good veggies I can buy at the grocery store for them to eat?

Do you have smooth rocks in your aquarium? If yes, than just let them graze over the algae that builds up on them. NLS exclusively works fine.

Anacharis. It grows fast and is cheap.

I found a article that has a small list of plants that mbuna eat.

They will eat egeria densa (except the top of it, which is regularly replanted when the rest of the plant is consumed), will eat Amazon swordplants, Vallisneria gigantea (yes, they will eat that, too), Hygrophila corymbosa (which grows much quicker than mbuna can consume). They will even nibble on anubias (to a far lesser degree). The only plants they will not attack is cryptocorine and nymphaea lotus.

I think I will be getting some Hygrophila corymbosa in the near future. :)

i am not sure on the plant front but just put a slice of zuchinni, raw or blanched, put it on a fork and let it sink to the bottom, they love it

Yep, mine love the zuchinni too. Makes the tank a little messy.
