Hey everyone, this weekend I was at my cottage and I collected a few plants. Are this safe to put in my tanks? I want to put some in my betta tank. I have heard that you can soak them in bleach+plus water but I am unsure of the ratio.

Here is some pictures

Anyone know what plant this is? If it helps it was in 3-4" of water and the leaves were not submerged.

How about this one?

Bleach would probably kill the plant. But a short dip in alum or potassium permanganate would kill parasites without destroying the plant. Sorry I don't know the concentration.

could you not just boil the plant very briefly? or would that kill it too? just thinking of ways to cleanse something without bleach

the first one looks to be a variation of pickerel plant, the second looks familiar, but I can't place it.
I wouldn't dip them at all. I enjoy getting free additions to my tanks.

i put plants from a local lake in my 170g without doing anything...they go from the lake, to the bucket, and to the tank....I have had no ill effects but that doesnt mean you wont.

1st one is a pickerel plant.
2nd is an Elodea species. Just rinse thoroughly and place in tank.
