Building a sump as we speak and I was thinking about adding a chamber just for this. I was thinking bamboo as well.

U think I could just push the bamboo shoot into the ceramics?

I think this would be a bad idea, for once the bamboo starts to grow the roots are going to take over and interrupt the flow of water going through the ceramics which is the only necessity when running a submerged media sump.

couldn't u take terracotta pot , drill some holes into it, then remove some ceramics and replace them with the pot and stick the bamboo into that? the roots should be contained and the water would flow perfectly through the pot and not disturb the bio media

forgot to mention lighting. i think bamboo is a low light plant right? so cant you like hook up a reptile light and just have that on for like 8 hours a day?

My wet dry pump moves too much water for my overflows to efficiently handle so I am adding an additional drain that will go to an 8'x1' trough and i plan to plant the entire length. This should kick some nitrate ***.

Sounds like a good idea. You don't see freshwater refugiums that often but I am sure they work.

This is what I thought as I read the title. I'm going to see how I can put one my sump to such use.

Any pics? I have a few half cooked ideas that I may give a try once I get the 120 up and running.
