peace lilly. if you get a few potted ones from homedepot they would cost about $8 all together and all you have to do it rinse off all the dirt and cut away most of the roots till you see a like node. and then put that in the water but make sure its by the intake. i found that my peace lillys love when they have direct contact with fish poopes lol

Im not using carbon but in the aquarium stores they say carbon makes your water crystal clear.... anyone have an idea as to how many plants id need to have a noticable difference in my water

All carbon does is remove chemicals in the water. Such as medications. But water changes does that better anyway so carbon has like no purpose. I'd go with some bamboo and a few pothos. For a 560 you might want to stock up on pothos lol.

Just thought to post the other 2 since it's another good thread by him :D

I went and got a full pathos plant for $6 at walmart. I cut all the stems at the root then popped the leaves off at the node. I set up the white egg crate that you get at lowes for lighting I placed it at water level in my sump and put the pathos stems threw the squares and put a little flo light over the sump. 2 days later and I already have the new root system popping out of the nodes once the plants take off ill start reading my nitrates. I have been told they should read at 0 with a full plant

Actually carbon isn't that useless, its also extremely porous, so it can trap tiny impurities inside of it ;)

No it is pretty much entirely useless. A well maintained tank has no use for it.
