plants or no plants?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
plants all the way - love the natural look! my plants of choice are java fens on driftwood.

plants make for great chemical filtration, so yes either in the tank or in a nice fuge. My neighbor has a 125 with a 10 and 12 inch oscars and guess what? he only dose a 20% WC every 2 weeks and has 0 nitrates.

Plants but most mine are plastic.

Not in the main display... I keep a few potted plants in the sump of my 150. The sump light turns on when the main display turns off.

I love the plants but struggle to keep them alive.
I guess keeping crayfish is not helping that situation either...

to many + to list all of them but nitrate controler, grazeing, shelter, are the big ones. Its not a matter of If you can.. it's a matter of finding the right plant ( not all plants are eaten by grazers, 'nore dug-up/destroyed if used well) tieing many species to driftwood, or potting them. Every tank can be planted.. it's just a matter of How to do it. :naughty:

My 75 and 150 only have pothos in the HOB filters, but those are getting HUGE. The one in the 150 has several vines that are 8-12' long and some of the leaves that get the most light are probably 8". I've tried letting the roots and leaves hang into the tanks, but the fish shred them.

plastic plants in mine since real plants would be food for my RTGG.none in with my CK he avoids them or pushed them into the corners so his tank stayed open

I'd say yes yes yes to plants! If you have a big tank I'd go with floating plants. It gives the tank a more realistic flavor. Just make sure the fish on your tank work well with plants and aren't gonna eat away at them or destroy them. If it all works out, you'll definitely love seeing your fish swimming in and out and under the greens. It's beautiful.
