Plants + Oscar

Hello everyone. Long time reader, 1st time poster.

I have a Red Oscar I've been raising since just past fry. Hes now @ 3 inches and ready to be transferred from my 26gal to my 150gal tank that I'm in the process of setting up. In the 26gal he tears everything up, like any normal Oscar, but he does not touch the Banana Plant I have in there. I'm gonna transplant the 1 Banana plant I have to the 150gal with the Oscar... but that plant, by itself, is about as Ugly as it comes...

So I'm curious, since my Oscar does not mess with the Banana Plant, but destroy everything else, maybe are there any other plants out there like this.

Has anyone noticed any other plants that Oscars do not mess with?

HA! No. He will move them or tear them in 1/2. He didn't like my Pirate Ship, so he moved it into 3 pieces, for example.

It depend on the mood of Oscar. Anubias or any larger leafs of Nana family is the one that you may try. They are easy beautiful plant . It will grow on wood or rock.

Mine don't like any plants or any rocks in their tank they just move the rocks around and dig up the plants until they are floating

i have a 6 incher and he seems to nibble on my swords but not really tear em up but my hyacinth is another story oh and he doesnt really touch the moss

oh yeah maybe java fern imma try that so I will eventually see how it works

then just do a bare tank. it sounds like your O doesnt want anything in the tank lol.

Large Leaf plants makes sense to me, as the Banana Plant has very large leafs. Moss? Ok, I'll give that a shot. Moss balls are cheap and plentiful.

i say either java moss or anubias i think that is how you spell it?
