any ideas guy im new at this and should i use plant grow bulbs or natural day light bulbs ? its a 55 gal tank with prawns in it

How many watts do you have on the tank? My guess is that you are going with the single strips which limits what you can have. But any Anubias should look good in there, as well as Java Fern. The Anubias you will want to tie to rocks or wood and keep the rhiozome above the substrate.

Banana plants (Nymphoides aquatica) will do well in sand also. They prefer slightly acitic water.

Howdy,

Matter of fact, sand is a great plant substrate! In your case, I suggest cryptocoryne and vallisneria. They are both pretty hardy regarding light and nutrients. I assume you do not have any substrate fertilizer?! You could also try Echinodorus.

What is echinodorus? And where would I find some?

Howdy Marlboro,

Have you ever seen our movie?! :D

Anyhow, google for a pic and check out your lfs. They're called Amazon sword.

there just 2 15 watt bulbs natural daylight i figure lower watt is better prawns are used to murky bottoms and such no point in putting higer watt bulbs they may get mad at me well in general i think ther pissed in life anyway

Be careful about using fertilizers with your prawns. Many fertilizers contain copper and other metals that are good for plants but bad for invertebrates.

Howdy and Welcome to MFK,

I have never heard of fertilizers containing copper, but certainly, algicides and a lot of meds contain it.

i just use lowwatt actually 2 15 watt bulbs about 10 hours a day and having young macro rosenbergi's that i have wanted for over 2 years ill never use any products that are not for them having a 55 gal tank with 2 marineland emperor 400 running there water is better then wat i drink i bet have to take care of the babies :screwy: :hitting:  :woot: and yes im a prawn nut lol
