Whats up guys!

This is my first post at MFK! :)

Just a quick question.. I have a 133 Gallon tank with...

2 Breeding Hap Moorii
2 Breeding Hap Ahli
2 Breeding Venustus
2 Common Plecs
1 ID Shark (catfish)
2 Juvenile Oscars

I hear non of these fish do well with plants. but I woudl really like some anyway. are there ANY varity of underwater plants that with withstand my cichlid wrath?

Try large plants of the Anubias family. They are thick and require lower intensity lighting than most other plants. If you can get them to take off they will grow even with a few bites taken here and there.

Good luck!

Java Fern & Anubias types will work well. As already stated, they are tough leaved and don't need alot of light. One of the best things about them is that you can attach them to driftwood/rocks, so the fish can't dig them up.

Welcome. I have quite successfully grown vallisneria with my Malawi's. Yes they do dig it up once in a while when they are digging spawning sites but I just replant. Found this to be the most suitable of all the plants. :naughty: :headbang2  :clap :mwave:

java is the best once it latches on to a rock it grows and grows. i have a 25 gal that is filled. i mean filled from top to bottom side to side front to back. and my cichlids never touched the stuff. i had black calvus, cyprichromis and some ophthalmotilapia

As Scotty says, Vallisneria is good and Anubias also... If you can get the vallisneria grow though. (I cant')

Let me know if you find plants that work..... Would love to have them myself but only tried once..... Ended tragically! Plants were shredded by my fish over night and clogged my filter something terrible. Would like to try again but afraid that it is a battle that I will never win!!!!
