I have 3 anubias with my mbuna. the larger of those have been with my mbuna for 3-4 years and have never had problems.

As far as to munch on I used to keep duckweed in with them and they seemed to really like it and it reproduced fast enough to keep an abundant supply of munchies for them.

Individual fishes additude will also play a role. I've had success w/some plants and fish combos, and the same fish/plant combos elsewhere not work. Some Mbuna will chew on anything, or completely leave them alone. Maybe try a few, and see what happens.

I've also found that the earlier you introduce the plants the better. Throw plants in with some mature Africans and it may be a salad bar. Introduce them when the fish are small and they may just be used to them and never touch them when they get bigger....
