Any ideas on what pant to get for 40g grow out tank Today and tomorrow I’m moving a couple cichlids to make room for a 1.5-2” red belly pacu and I’m extremely excited and yes I’m very knowledgeable on pacu and all other fish I own but the pacu is the fish that made me so passionate about fish and want to start keeping fish and be apart of this amazing hobby so words cannot even describe how excited I for tomorrow but I’m planning on removing small rock hide from the left side of the tank and in its place putting a plant my tank is always at a steady 78° For the fact that all fish are exotic and tropical and wanting a plant that is kind of like a salt water anemone in the way that clownfish rely on them for protection I’m wanting a freshwater plant that’s big enough for the fish to go into and use as a hide but also for the pacu to eat at times

Well i don't know if the pacu will eat them but you could try hornworth or spiral val. Conversely there are various sword plants thta might work. Perhaps a Uruguayensis Sword or ruffle sword. The ruffle sword can actually get quite large but if your tank is low tech it would take along time. There are tons of plants not really sure what you are trying to accomplish. This is my 120 if you see something in there you like i could name it. Hum - you could do the entire tank of java fern (taht's the plant on the right corner) - again no clue if the pacu would eat them - doubt it as they aren't very leafy.

And this is my 40B:

I’d try some water wisteria. Fast growing and easy to care for but not sure if it can withstand a pacu.

A Pacu is going to eat any kind of vegetation that it can, much like a silver dollar. They are not picky and no plant is safe.

I’m wanting some that resembles this I just found the picture on google but something like this I can put in the back corner of my tank that the fish can go into 73B54865-1B67-40C2-B475-3E8DAAE28B41.jpeg

dwarf sag or dwarf hair grass - the sag is easier to grow. Only problem is neither get very high - maybe 2 or 3 inches.

Ok also I’m extremely inexperienced in plants I’ve had coons tail before and that’s all I’ve had and it did pretty well for several months and is there anything like the hair grass but gets a lot bigger

micro sword or pygmy sword - but they take a while to grow and spread. Also if you google some of these plants make sure you look at submerged form as many plants have an emerged form where they break the water level. Most shops grow them emersed since they grow a lot faster.

Any of swords, crypts, sag, or vals would work. Also, any of the anubius sp varieties or java fern varieties. Crinums are a great choice as they are a bulb plant and very undemanding. If your tank is bare bottom then a flower pot with some potting soil under a layer of gravel would work. Floating plants like guppy grass or wisteria too.
This 29g is planted with dwarf sag and Crypt Wendetii Bronze.

Is there a specific trick to get dwarf sag to grow tall. It has never grown tall for myself and reading this it seems unpredictable:
