My idea is to buy a 150-300g stock tank and turn is into a fish tank. The question is. I was thinking to get a plastic 150g stock tank and cut a hole in the side for a window, would that work?

It will work if you can get a seal on the viewing window. You will want to find a stock tank that has a flat side to make that easier and you will need to find one made out of a material that silicone will stick to.
I have a 150 that I use for new fish and sick fish. Im thinking they might flex to much to put a window on one.
i know i ran across some that already had a viewing window in them on an aquaculture site... aquaeco i think? hmm i will look for it and see if i can find a link to post

Go for one w/o a window (and this means also look at the $300 swimming pools). For viewing, get a USB webcam and a USB over CAT5 extender to run the cable 100 feet or so to view on a computer. Build it a nice little plexi glass box to live in and run the cable back to your desk, etc.
