they are about 4 inches now, when they hit 8 ill probably either upgrade or give them to a friend with a pond

yah i had one of them get up to about 3 inches or so in my feeder tank and had fed him real good for a long time.....i fed him to my knife fish :headbang2

What are you thinking about for filtration

They told you wrong. The only way to have healthy fish without filtration is to do very large, very frequent water changes. You can get good bio-filtration cheaply with a DIY mattenfilter or sponge filter.

You will most assuredly require some sort of natural or mechanical filtration for healthy fish. :)

if you have a bunch of live plants you may not need anything but a powerhead and a couple inches of substrat, check in the DIY forum, theres a guy who has an entire green house full of fish and all he uses for filtration is plants, i believe it entitled, " MY fish Greenhouse" or something along those lines.

Ok but now I am thinking on a bigger scale of one of those giant blue tubs and a slightly smaller blue tub then fill in the middle with great stuff. Ill go to the lake pick up some plants and use the smalll filter I have there. So now maybe somewhere around 50 dollars? And for that Ill have maybe a 40 gallon tank, or Ill look for a cheap pond at Lowes
