I'm looking to order some scrubbies online and found two different types: plastic scourer pads and nylon scourer pads. Is there any difference between the two and is one better for bio filtration than the other?

im tempted to say plastic would last longer.

i would just use bioballs or other media, so its easier to rinse out then scrub pads

I think they are going to be pretty much the same thing.

forget the bioballs, they are too expensive.

EDIT: I take that back, go with the plastic ones.

bio balls suck and the surface area is a joke compared to pot scrubbies :) as to the question, im thinking they might be the same thing...ive seen the plastic and metal kind, but not nylon/plastic. who knows

I appreciate the responses guys, another question: if price wasn't a factor what media is better for a wet sump? Scrubbies or the ceramic bio rings?

ceramic rings for sure. but they can be expensive. i got lucky, the 400g tank i just bought came with a 50lb sack of ceramic rings. i dont even know what to do with so many :nilly:

just because they have more surface area doesnt mean they can use all that area effectively in a wet/dry. ive also heard they get clogged real fast in canisters.

The problem with them clogging is that the water is not properly filtered before it hits the scrubbies. If proper mechanical filtration is used, the scrubbies will stay clean for a long while.
