there still cool fish tho, extremely hardy, they swim alot before a storm.

there actually live longer in a cooler tank in the low 70's. i think there life span is halfed in a 78 degree tank.

They swim alot before a storm? I have never heard that before. Cool.

Yeah, another name for them is weather loach. They are affected by changes in the barometric pressure.

Found this on the site http://www.absoluteastronomy.com/topics/Weather_loach

Misgurnus is a genus of loaches. Commonly known as weatherfishes or weather loaches, they are commonly eaten in Asia....

and the spotted weather loach (
Cobitis taenia, commonly known as Spined Loach). This term comes from their ability to detect changes in barometric pressure and react with frantic swimming or standing on end. This is because before a storm the barometric pressure changes, and this is known to make these fish more active.

And this on http://freshaquarium.about.com/cs/loaches1/p/weatherloach.htm
In the United States we watch the weather report on the evening news. In European countries people may turn to an eel-like fish to predict storms. Amazingly, our weather experts might be given a run for their money when pitted against the meteorologically gifted fish. When storms approach the previously calm fish begins swimming wildly about, appearing to be looking for a way out. It's believed that changes in the barometric pressure, which occur before storms, account for the wild behavior.

Anyone who owns a weather loach can testify that predicting the weather isn't the only reason to keep one. Their active and interesting personalities coupled with ease of care have made them one of the most popular loaches.

I have kept them before. They are sold in many stores here as feeders-really cheap.
