Actually I was in the process of buying a 1045, then I thought about going plywood instead of acrylic.

One thing i've learnt from my build is go as big as you can in the space you can otherwise you're always going to be thinking about going larger! I only went 9x5x3 when i had space to go 12x5x4 and really should have done as it bugs me constantly now. Building your own tank is a lot more satisfying (if longer) than getting one built for you too.

Here's what I know about PAG. From what I ahve read there was a Gator gar breeder in asia somewhere (asumming japan) that happened to breed a plat. and b/c it was not known that this color morph would become sought after for HIGH dollars they tried to give it away and no one wanted it. so it ended up going to a friend of the breeder. when word got out about it to people who were into the odd color morphs. They soon found that they had potetial for a cash cow with this fish. so he got back with the original breeder and they got a viable strain of PAG. now they sell them in japan for (the last time I checked) 18000 US. And the last time I heard anything there was not a single one in the US. there had been talk about getting one over here but the breeder seems to want to hold onto them until they are over 2' and that makes shipping risky at best and people that have 18K to drop on a fish still are smart enough not to risk the transport over here.
that being said assuming that you really have a hookup for a true PAG not a different sp. of gar for a possible 10K in the US and had the cash to buy it. you would be foolish not to b/c it's the only know one in the US.

As a single fella living alone in the UK (mostly!) the electric company guestimated my bill at £13 per month, they've just up'd it to £70 per month as that's what it's costing to keep just 1,000gal heated! Just remember to insulate the crap out of anything you decide to build.
Matey boy with the 50,000 and 15,000 lives in canada, that's going to be some bad heating bills!
