Has anyone bred a EBJD x Platinum yet?
eb/eb x eb/gg. I tried to do the punnet square since I couldnt find it on the list. But wouldnt that give you 50/50?

I know this is an older thread and this question is 5 months old, but thought I would answer. By my estimate, 100% of the fry would be EBJD and carry the gold gene. My opinion is that this cross is not possible just as EBJD x EBJD is not possible (does not produce viable fry that live beyond a week or two). I think it would be good to validate this if you have the time, space and energy (not trying to discourage you). Good luck with your project.

Hmm, no one yet?

I personally don't think it'll work. A platinum is pretty much like the "albino" of EBJs so same as EBJ x EBJ.

But, what I'm very curious about is a Male EBJ x Female (pearly, shiny type cichlid). Perhaps with a Carpintis, Thaisilk, Vieja, Jaguar, or any females.

Is the Blue gene, species specific? Or can the Blue get passed onto another species.

I developed a similar chart for the same reason. I have a little different naming convention than you do. Most of the numbers I have are similar to yours, but there are a few differences. I also reformatted my chart to show a summary. For these two independent recessive genes, there would be 9 possible gene combinations as you showed. There would be 45 unique crosses you could make using these 9 types assuming there is no difference on which genes are carried by the male vs. the female. I am also looking to validate my calculations on what I did, so if anyown cares to comment, I would appreciate feedback. It is hard to represent this in a simple way...

Thanks!
Patrick

I don't know that anyone has tested this, or proven this either way. There is the Blue Gene JD x Jaguar in the hybrid section that shows some pretty amazing blues, but not sure what that means. Would the fish have been just as blue if a standard JD was used? Not sure anyone has tested this yet. The same question goes for the gold gene - can it be passed on to other species through a hybrid? Not sure anyone has tested it.

Holy Smack lemme go check it out...

You know, the best chance is for Electric Blue to pass on the gene. Then get one of the 'gene hybrid' to breed back to Electric Blue (Awesome if unrelated)
