Platy and guppy fry...uses?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I simply add a new male when I find one at the lfs I find particularly attractive to me. goes for my guppies and platies. about 2x a year I will cull all the males from my tanks and feed them to my preds. and buy new males to breed w/ my females. You could prolly get away with doing this 1x a year or so. I am always trying to improve my stock even my feeders. and thats a relatively painless way to do it. You may miss a few males but I found buying a handful of new males is still cheaper then buying a new female colony.

asian bumblebee cats have completely controled my molly population to the point I have no more babies from them. Ghost shrimp do a fair job of picking off the weak and unlucky fry. mixing just about any predetor that is large enough to eat the fry but not large enough to eat the adults will control your fry levels too. It can be fine balanceing act to dance though depending on your goals. to many preds and you'll loose all your fry.. not enough.. and your stuck w/ the same problem.
