i havent used play sand for my tanks but i hear of other people on here using it. i have pool filter sand in my 55 so i know that works fine. just do a search of the threads and you will be able to find something about it. i say as along as its clean then go for it. if you run a hose into the bucket with sand and the water runs of clear then it should be good. good luck

^^ i just did that with the hose,i wasa thingking about mixing really fine gravel with it. like 5 lbs sand and like 5 maby 10 lbs fine gravel?

bulldog, poolfilter sand, can u get that at walmart? how much for like 10lbs? or they only have 55lb. bags?

i may put the play sand in and see what it looks like see if i like it, if i do i will leave it alone.

but any use this sand and like it??

i dont know about mixing i have heard of people doing that and it didnt turn out right unless you put a barrier in there to keep them seperated. and i got my pool filter sand at meijer i think it was $8 for a 50lb bag. i didnt see any at walmart around me but it may be different in other states.

Depending on the playsand sometimes it can contain anti-fungul and pesticides within it, making it undectable to the human eye. Just because it looks clean doesnt make it clean. (Feel free to use this advice when dating as well).

I have to agree with Gr8...When you look at the big picture here is it really worth risking your fishes health to save less money on substrait than you spend on fish food for a week?
