play sand

The play sand actually seems to be safer than the reptile specific sand in most cases.... I use it with my king snakes without any issues. most of the problems from sand arise because of incorrect temperatures. Just make sure your beardie has a nice hot basking spot and it should be fine.

what about the cactus and other "deserts plants they sell at petsmart. I thought about setting up a corner of live plants like that just to give it a more exotic look. Are they also safe?

A beardie will try to eat any live plant you keep with it. Not a good idea since many types of house plants are poisonous.

Jade plants and snakeplants are safe as long as they ar pesticide free. But unless your tank is very large and the plans aswell they will not do well from the constant nipping from the beardi.

His new enclosure will be 4 ft long, 2 ft wide, and prolly 20 inches tall. I'm trying to build it out of a single sheet of plywood. The glass is from an old 55 gal tank I busted. Top till just be a screen more than likely. I wanted sliding front doors but since I have the glass ill just use it. Was going to make it taller. I know people say beardies don't utilize height as much, but I've seen a lot of them sitting up high on brances etc.. I may make a section where he can climb if need be.

Sounds like you have a good set up planned. I would recommend fake plant and drift wood over live plants. It will be less of a hassle and safer in the log run. There are some awesome looking fake plants out there now too. I have trouble distinguishing some of them from the live ones.

Those cactus at petsmart may be fake. I don't know for sure but they looked real and was in the reptile section. I'm going to rip a 4x8 sheet of plywood long ways then in half. Its the good plywood. 3/4 inch marine grade. I should be building a fish tank with this stuff but spike (the beardie) is getting it. I'm calling lowes on lunch to see if they'll rip the wood down for me although it wasn't bought from them. If they will do it then I should have some progress this week. I just got to figure out how to get this busted 55 gallon apart to harvest the glass off it.

Just keep in mind that pine is poisonous to reptiles so make sure to seal that plywood with something if the beardie can come in contact with it.

I'm glad u said something cause I did not know that. The wood is marine grade so I'm assuming it is sealed with something. I do however have some black barn and fence paint left over from a proior project. Would it be safe to just paint the whole inside of the enclosure with that?
