You don't all have to defend him like he is a little kid, he can do that just fine himself.

But allright if you say so..

Still I wanted to say something about growth and tank size, but never mind.

People do realize that a 40 breeder is actually about 45 gallons, right? That's only 10 gallons less than the 55 that has been recommended. The only really significant difference is the footprint of the tank. It becomes a question of, would I rather my fish have a foot more of swimming space length-wise but only 13" width, or give him a foot less length-wise but 6" more width.

People keep adult pairs of discus in 40 breeders, so I don't see why you couldn't keep a single EBJD in one. Especially when you consider that most EBJD don't grow as large as standard JD (probably due to the heavy inbreeding and whatnot).

Let me explain my logic. Since I'm dutch I was converting it to liters and that would make 145-150 liters. Which is usually an 80cm tank and that would be 32 inch in length.

As stated on the first page of this thread, a 40 Breeder is 36" x 18" x 16".

Even if the EBJD gets 8", which most of them do not, a 40 breeder is still a great foot print.

Diet, water quality, stress are the biggest contributors to growth in my experience. As slow as EBJD grow and as susceptible as they are to internals I would be much more concerned with keeping water pristine than tank size.

Yeah we saw the video the first time :D

That is a very nice EBJD, most do not make it that big, they seem to have weak immune systems and shorter life spans.

with that being said, I would keep that big EBJD in a 40 Breeder. I would not keep a breeding pair in a 40 breeder though.

Lol at this thread and mega lol @ the guy who has his breedign JD's with Cardinal tetras!
