Can I actually keep a jewel cichlid (African) with the SA/CAs?

You could if you really want too . No harm in trying .

Firemouths are a nice small/ medium cichlid , but just watch them with other simlar size fish as mine some times has ago at the Port and Blue Araca i have in with him too , which are slightly larger than the Firemouth . but most of the time there are all ok with each other . :)

Thanks for the replies. I am not sure I want to take a risk with the cutteri as they really do look very dull and they are not tiny! If I see a nice one I may take it. I did originally want the Tapajos Geos but they need to be in a group right and would probably not be happy on their own? I havent really got room to have a group of geos unless I decided on those as my final stock.(would they be OK with a pH of 7.6?). So, I am thinking along the lines of (with current stock):

1 or 2 sajica
1 firemouth
2 of the following: Cutteri or HRP or blue acara or rainbow cichlid

or

1 or 2 Sajica
2 G. Tapajos

I am worried about overstocking so dont want to overdo it.

And Disciple, thanks for the advice but please dont shout!

I saw some cutteri in my LFS but they were really boring, plain white colour with faint grey stripes and a little faint bit of pink. Are they supposed to look like that? They were about 2.5 inches.
That sounds like breeding colors. These guys have great color changing ability. Check out my album. They breed as much as convicts but grow faster.

they SHOULD color up nicely... im not sure I would classify them as VERY aggressive. no more so than convicts during breeding. they are too small to do anything.
breeding cutteri are more aggressive then breeding convicts. I have a 3" pair with an 11" FH and they are tearing his tail a part.
