Please help find a good home in Washington State for Snappy!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If they get take him away, that just highlights the sad world of poor judgement we seem to live in nowadays. I really hope it works out for you and you and the school don't have to be seperated. Do you want me to move this to buy and sell for you, more people would browse it...

I am sorry dan. Such a beautyfull Chelidra.

I would remind you, however, that you do not live in Afghanistan.. If the authorities said ( or did they write also? an e mail for instance? ) they were sending you the permit form, I simply do not believe that them showing up to aprehend the turtle is a possibility.

Also, you're not just and individual. The turtle is in a school, for God's sake. It is "schools property" ( for due purposes )...

I sincerely feel that you are over reacting. I am sure the authorities will wait for you to go through the permit burocracy.

Have you kept the name of the person who said that the form was being sent to you?

( excuse me, but this is the lawyer I carry inside speaking :))

I would wait things out. Don't give up on the turtle just yet.

Sorry but you obviously have never had to deal with the "System" as it is. His fears are very real and justified. They can and will remove animals like this from even private citizens when they feel like it. And the fact that it's in a school (Public I assume) makes it even that much easier for them to do so.

Good luck I hope you find him a home (Haven't read all the posts yet)

:grinyes: I was thinking the same thing.

Of course the thought has crossed my mind, but...

1) I don't like the thought of him living an Anne Frank-like existence, hiding from the Fish & Wildlife nazis.

2) It's illegal. As a school teacher I really do try to set a good example...

Thanks, I agree 100%. I kept bugging the ODFW switchboard operators until I got in touch with a biologist. She was much more reasonable than the person I had talked to previously, it sounds like I may actually have a chance to get the permit, although it is a month-long review process.

In the meantime I have a friend in Vancouver, Washington (just over the Oregon border) that is willing to house him until I find out the verdict.

I still would like to hear from anybody that is interested in adopting him. If I am denied a permit Snappy will need a new permanent home, our loss could be your gain.

Once I get the application I will upload a copy, maybe I will start a thread on how to - hopefully :) - get a prohibited species permit.

Thanks.

I may have overreacted a bit, but I drove to the school and grabbed Snappy. He is on his way to Vancouver, Washington right now.

It is a public school, and Snappy's tank is in the lobby, clearly visible through the front window. I trust the biologist I talked to, but not some over-zealous field agent that wants to flex his authority.

just take snappy home and make a home for him with you, no one will know where snappy went.... end of problem...

They have my address to send me the application, I just can't risk it... :(

So sorry to hear this Dan, I've seen your pics of Snappy and it's a pity you have to send him away. I hope his new home in Vancouver is a great one. I understand the issues that invasive species can cause, but it stinks that you're the one who has to pay the price when we're talking about an animal that has something like a 0% chance of ending up in a local waterway. :(
