A few months....just recently got ill

It's 5" now, and you've had it a few months! How big was it when you got it, it must have been tiny. Growth rate should be a lot faster on a happy aro.

Covering the tank with a blanket might help

My fault I'm useless with measurements...he's just gliding up and down he's 8inches not 5

Ok thankyou...he's actually kept in a room that is fairly quiet during most of the day but with defiantly dig out a blanket and keep everything crossed that he gets better

Looks like he slammed himself into the top. Aro's are known jumpers. Make sure the lid is tight, fish is comfortable in tank (tankmates not bothering him, etc) and makre sure water parameters are good. Do you have a test kit? Ammonia should be 0, nitrite 0, nitrate < 20ppm. Poor water can cause fish to jump as well.
As already stated, will need a 300 gallon plus within a year. If fish outgrows the tank he will be much more likely to keep jumping and hurting himself. looks like a 55 gallon tank now? Will be too small in around 2 months, will need at least 18" wide tank, then 24, then 30, etc. Aro's grow fast and get too big for most people.

Hi just wanted to say thankyou for all your advise, all tank mates were evicted, kept light off, did stress coat salt water change....great news Harry's black patch has gone his scales in that area are a bit flaky looking but healing and he's eating again. Can't thankyou enough my partner says thanks too
