whats up , I have a 125 gal ph is a steady 6.8 heat is a steady 79 deg. I have a 9 inch oscar a 7 inch jag and 7 inch gt and two little tinfoil barbs to distract from any fighting. I introduced the the oscar and jag two weeks ago, a few days into it i noticed a little mark on the side of the oscar. after a week now its gotten worse and its more like a deep hole now. i put the two tinfoils and the green terror in 4 days ago and the tinfoils have the same mark on there head. but the terror and jag are fine. heres a few pics. any ideas ?????
(there is some agression between fish but nothing serious for the most part they get along great)

I dont know my nitrite nitrate levels i dont have a tester, going to stop a my LFS today and have them test my water. I have two aqua clear 70 filters on my 120 gal, I feed them mostly pellets with the occasional cut up tilapia raw fillets and feeders. but I just put the two tinfoils in the tank a week ago and that white patch on there heads is spreading. Im not sure if the white patches on the tinfoils and the whole in the oscar is related.

ok well first off the 2 hob filters is not enough filtration all the fish you have are really dirty and will release alot of toxins into the water. The second issue would be the feeders, i don't reccomend feeding feeders because there is a really good chance that the feeders are sick. if i were you i would raise your temp to about 82 and treat the tank with aquarium salt and se if the fish start to recover. Get your water tested and post back and we will go from there.

looks like a bite mark that is going to turn into a secondary infection. you need to keep your water pristine! waterchanges-dont know what youre schedule is but i do a 50 percent wc every week on my oscar tank. add salt, and melafix and pimafix-id hate to see this turn into a nasty bacterial or fungal infection-which is what will happen if the sore is getting infected.

stop feeding feeders to your oscar-they hold almost no nutritional value and are high in fat. plus, they are well known disease carriers. you should be giving him a good quality pellet (i use omega one) and suppliment with krill, veggies, spirulina (hey, my oscar loves that stuff), bloodworms, brine shrimp-they arent picky.

id suggest you start with a 50 percent waterchange, salt and melafix and pimafix.. then keep up with wc's.

Hi thanks for all your info, I do know the two filters are not enough , im looking for a fluval on craigslist right now. and im only feeding the feeders because where i got them they only fed them feeders so they wouldnt eat pellets for nothing , but im weening them off the feeders.
so heres the update, I did a 25% water change, and added aquarium salt and raised my temp to about 83. my water param's are ph is 6.4 , my amonia is a little high dont remember the number but it wasnt life threatning the lfs said. nitrites were good , but nitrates were also a little high but nothing to crazy. the fluval will help that. I quarenteend the 2 tinfoils in a hospital tank and are treating them with pimafix. already seeing a improvment. as for the oscar jag and gt they started getting ICH which is why i added the salt but i dont know if I should add the pimafix or melafix so soon after the salt . dont want to shock them with to much to soon ya know. and yea thanks Navygirl im def ganna step up my waterchanges to one a week from one every two weeks. and what kind of veggies you feed your? and what is spirulina ? lol

abit of amonia is life threatning to any fish your amonia should be 0 so should your nitrites and your nitrates should not be over 40 max.do a big water change and that should solve one problem.

feeders will cause hole in the head and other dieseases.

spirulina is fish food.

and any vegetable is good for your fish try everything and see what they eat.. just stay away from iceburg salad.

good luck:)

If your local fish store said that you are showing ammo but its not life threatening then they are not a good source of information.....sounds like you are on the right track though good luck.

got a two more questions for you guys, the only way to rid amonia without chemicals is thru water changes right? also with the salt method to cure the ICH its a one time deal right just add it that one time , not daily. and replenish what was taken out when doing water changes, am I right?
