  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i havent got the foggiest what this is but it looks like suming crossed with a barred midas. this is proberly totally wrong but ifyou wait it out n let 1 of the genuisz have there say youll get your answer for sure

i dont think its possible to tell what it is.

It has the shape of an Oscar to me.. and fins look the same... just my observation.. I'm not good at IDing though..

Dude why does everybody assume its a hybrid cuz its posted in the hybrid section?
There are only three things it could be, in my opinion. This is based on the shape of the head and the position of the eye on the head.
Imo it could only be either
A young chochlate cichlid (temporalis)
An atypical archocentrus centrarchus
or a poorly taken care of 'true' parrot cichlid (Hoplarchus psittacus)

my money is on the 2nd or 1st ones, by order of probability.
Do some research on these 3 fish and look at it again in a couple months
if u take care of it well it looks like itll colour up to the traits of what it really is

It's not any of those you mentioned...mouth, eye, and face doesn't fit well in any of the 3 on your list(even at juvenile size - all three you've mentioned are different from the OP's pic). I'm 99.9% sure it's a hybrid...texas or parrot blood is definitely there(I've seen a whole hell a lot of texas or parrot blood throw into a fish - and that's the exact eye it will throw out). If I'm wrong that it is not a hybrid, then I must be the worst fish identifier in terms of if its a hybrid or not.
:)

Hey guys,

Thanks for all the input. I think the most fitting ID so far is from "cacichliids" in the cichlid forum:

some type of australoheros

btw, I eyeballed the fish at 6". Too bad there was'nt better lighting in the tank, it would make IDing it less difficult
