Thanks for checking this out. This little guy was sold to me a buccochromis rhoadessi yellow but I'm doubting it as it not looking like other rhoadessi yellows that I have in my tank.

Wondering what type of bucco is this? Or is it not even a bucco?

The attached pic with the fish in the middle. Not the gar..

Looks like a young juvenile, hard to tell from this end.

There are a number of rift lake genera that sport the diagonal bar starting around the dorsal, and leading to the caudal, Lichnochromis, and Mylochromis to name two. But since it is young, and may be female, for me.... any species designation would be difficult. There may also be other genera with that diagonal stripe, some sporting it when young (or female) and losing it when older, or male (unless stressed).
Nice young Fossorochromis in the pic, I had a breeding group where the males hit 12", and were bright purple/bluish.

Thanks everyone. I guess I will keep my eye on that little guy/girl until it gets bigger. It's currently at 3 inches now, so hopefully it will start showing some traits to make more distinguishable.

Im wondering if it could be juvenile bucco heterotania? I was looking at other juv via pictures and it's body is taller than the other bucco's in my tank. I also have lichnochormis and mylochromis in my tank and this little one doesn't look like them either.

Oh wells, I guess I will let time tell me. Thanks everyone.

I agree that Buccochromis is also a major contender, all species of the genus seem to sport that diagonal line, as young, and as females. And in heterotania, that line is more irregular, similar to the one in your photo.
