Ok, so my friend is keeping a tank for me until we move this fall, anyway, one of her roommates added a fish and I'd like help with an ID. It's a dark color all over the body except for the fins which are all orange-red. Can't get a picture cause it spends all it's time in this little rock hiding place, I've seen it once.

BINGO, thats what I was just looking at, i think that is what our new little friend is, right now he is about 4" long. What does he need, anyone with personal experience?

They can be quarrelsome towards other fish. Another loach to avoid aside from Yasuhikotakia morleti. What is the size of the tank they are in?

He is in a 75 with my friends assorted community fish, a few black-skirts, serpae, ghost shrimp, rosies, and two crabs.

He'll probably eat the shrimp
Ditto.:)

The chances of that is already high not to mention that the modesta can grow to more than 6 inches thus giving it the advantage to eliminate almost all invertebrates.

Eat the shrimp, good for him, they were originally in there for "breeding" aka my roommate wanted to provide his snapper with food, what i really want to know is how he would handle a Red Devil or two, long story short, current fish are going to a 20 gal that she has and then i get this tank back for a possible breeding pair or a single RD, up in the air now depending if i want to spend $50 or $5.

Oh, and he has already fought the one of the crabs, same crab that killed a picus cat, just drug the poor guy into a log by his tail and whiskers. Cat was 4" long, crab is about 1" across.
