Please help ID these little Dats!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They are AT and maybe my theory about tigers being unstable when happy is true as they were unstable in brackish water which is the right water for AT now you have put them in FW they are stable which may mean they are un happy

One thing I can't work out is Why do we get about 10-15 ID this tiger threads per week when we have stckys that you can ID them yourself it makes the stickys a waste of time

Because others like to have other members comment on there fish. Maybe that person has already tried the stickies and due to inexperience with
Dats, still can't ID properly.

Those pics look all AT to me.

I have to disagree with your theory : unhappy = stable. If this were true, why do some of my tigers go black when being attacked? Yet others go stable when being chased.

Does this mean your widebar has been very unhappy all it's life?

Total derail... I know.

does that mean they were happy in a bag for 9 hours?? now that they are in planted tank and eating like crazy they are unhappy??

they both look AT to me. also about being unstable when happy, my big IT is always unstable/dark when i am near the tank but when no one is in the room he is not completely stable but he is a very light golden color with patchy bars and much more active

I read the stickies.....I knew they were not thin bars as sold to me. when I posted i was told they were indos!! By the way.....the Sticky lists AT as FRESHWATER!

This DETAIL needs to be changed by the mods.
Point seems to be debated.....The fact that they are found in landlocked freshwater lakes seems to suggest either is possible. Very few keepers here maintain At's in a brackish tank. I am sure you are right though.:D I am not planning to go brackish though i always add salt weekly. I will let you if they die.

Pulcher are a different story as they are stable 24/7 I could take my pulcher out kick it around the room and it would STILL be stable the same as every other pulcher I have had why do you think people want them so much it's not because they look so different to indos

I have had many indos that were unstable then you net them put them in a bag drive them to a shop and they are stable and will stay stable for a few weeks until they settle in then they turn black

As for reading the stickys most of this I'd my new dat thing could be sorted without having to start a new thread to tell the truth it makes people look stupied who start them as it just shows they didn't research a fish before buying it

I can understand if people want a I'd between ST and IT as it's hard unless you know what to look for but thin bars indos ngt and AT all look totally different and after reading the stickys it should only be IT and ST people have problems with

Let's be fair some of the I'd charts in the stickys have been around for years and they are were I learned to tell the difference so others should do the same if I spent time resurching fish before I buy them others should do the same before buying ANY fish

Your indo is happy to see you because you bring him food turning unstable to show he's happy

As for AT being found in FW have you ever thought they may spawn in FW then return back to brackish water meaning they live in brackish water but the young are found in FW

It's the reverse for ngt they spawn in brackish water then return back to FW to live

Have you also thought that for AT to eat so much it could be down to them being in the wrong water which messes up metabolism

I appreciate what you are saying.....I have the ID chart. i read the Stickys....i was sold something and new it was not right. Members of this forum helped confuse the matter by telling me the were ITs....Id threads are helpful. Some may seem pointless to you but I like to be certain of what i am caring for. The LFS around here are sometimes able to get the fish with no clue about what they have. This is a case in point as these are not 6 bar dats. The LFS was picking up stock and called me from the wholesaler and asked if I wanted 2x 2" Thin Bar dats....sight unseen. I am not disappointed but am glad i know what I have!
