Please help identify this fish

They're not that recent. The species was ID'd by it's current name in the mid-1940s.

Hmm.I think my first and only time seeing one was about a year ago during one of my Sharkaquarium visits.

I bred my pairs a decade ago and bought my fish as juvies from another breeder. But, I don't remember the species being available before about 15 years ago.

It also could be that I haven't really been into very many cichlids in about a decade and back then I was keeping Africans.When this fish caught my eye I didn't think it was a cichlid right away but rather a perch of some kind.
