I occasionally see them(sunfish) mixed in with the feeder goldfish

Green sunfish, the white tips on the tail and dorsal are dead giveaways. The fish is going to terrorize the hell out of your tank plus live a short miserable life if its kept at tropical temps like viper and frank both said.

In my area we regularly catch these guys in ponds to hot for other fish to live comfortably(at 85 degrees plus water tempature they are one of the few fish still feeding heavily)

The temp only holds for about 3 months but it's still impressive
