back when I was trying to save my sulfur head male from being bullied I went to LFS and asked for an assortment of Aulonocara and this guy was thrown in and was an unknown. Doesn’t bother me cause he was going to be a dither but wanted to keep it as a cichlid population. So curious if anyone can help me ID him. Originally he was dark I dare say black and I contributed that to his size and there being a much larger peacock male already established and running the tank for the peacock pop but as he’s grown more and more he’s been displaying more and more regardless and the other male doesn’t even bother or notice him so someone everyone help!!!

Yup. Scianochromis fryeri seems to be one of those that will breed with anything.

I dunno what to say or feel about this right now - gonna wait for more feedback - but this is not pleasing to hear I know I have a red top hongi but I bought that by choice knowing what I was buying. But I specifically asked for a group of Aulonocara males and An OB was the only hybrid I knew I was receiving and didn’t mind having this guy jeopardizes any fry I could possibly receive !! As I don’t mind having hybrids so long as both parents are Aulonocaras. I ve recently had one freak incident where my red shoulder male chose a OB female and bred with her when there is a much larger more mature red shoulder female in the same tank. I now have 23 hybrid fry from them now in a holding tank now. I feel like Frankenstein right now

It a pretty common cross. The white tipped dorsal and red anal fish are common frywri traits, but the body shape is more aulonanaul.
