Please help me stock my new 103

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks Clockwork. Yes the torpedos are beautiful fish, non-aggressive and never bother any of the others, or get bothered themselves. They are currently 4inches long. My loaches are 2 pakkistani and 1 zebra.

I'd still prefer a feature fish though and am seriously considering a single severum as I think it should hold its own against the tigers. This would rule out getting more live plants I think since they are grazers!

Yes, my friend keeps a lot of SA cichlids and he has this problem... he is restricted to plants that grow on his driftwood--anubias, java fern, java moss.

I really think your fish would enjoy a planted tank though.

I would get more yoyo loaches (aka pakistani), at least 4 more. They will be much happier... ideally you would get more zebras as well, but I think he will school with the yoyos just fine. If you get a larger group, they will be much more active and you can enjoy their "loach" antics.

If you got angels, they would eat your plants too... and may go after smaller fish.

What is your ph? I think I would personally get discus... if your ph is low and you are confident with your water quality (and vigilant with your water changes) they are pretty stunning.

My ph is 7.5 and the water is always good as I have filtration suitable for 150 gals.
Wouldn't discus be at risk of getting nipped too? I've never kept them before but they are surely slow-moving and a temptation for the tigers?

The tigers should really keep to themselves in the large group you have them in. Now I say SHOULD, every fish has exceptions...

However, your ph is too high for discus, and high for SA american cichlids... both prefer acidic water... I would say most discus would outright have a problem in your ph, and other SA cichlids would be ok, but would not thrive.

AFRICAN cichlids on the other hand would enjoy your ph... as far a peaceful african cichlids (a bit of an oxymoron, but you have other semi-aggressive fish...) what about an electric yellow lab or a keyhole?

Once again not my pictures...

And your filter is rated for 150 gallons? My FX5 is rated for 400 gallons on my 125, but I STILL run additional filtration... what exactly are you running?

A canary? Yes that's an idea. What about a sev as well?

I'm not going to say you can't keep severums, but they really won't like your ph. They will live, but will likely not thrive. You also have to take in to account your KH and GH of course...
