a few hours ago i put my flowerhorns together and finally they started to breed instead of fight ... anyway i seen her drop her eggs then i watched the male fertilize them.hopefully.. ethier way i seperated the female from the male and left the male to watch the eggs. he is gaurding them pretty good to... my question is after awile about 10 out of 150 eggs turned white... im guessing these are no good??? if so should i remove these white eggs.. and also if they hatch succesfully should i remove them as soon as tthey become free swimming? here is a vid sry about the quality of it though my cam. not so good

Usually the parents will remove the bad ones. if not u can get a turkey baster and remove them urself if they start to fungus over. dont be surprised if this is their first batch for them to mistakingly eat the good eggs too.

IMO if you have the male in there, he should take care of the dead eggs.

The way I see it, if you are letting the parent/s take care of the eggs, let them be. Cover the tank may be with newspaper to not spook them at all. If the male is there, doing his thing, your intervention might lead it to gobble of the eggs like a mad man!

On the other hand, if you remove both the parents once the eggs are laid, you must take care to remove the dead eggs on a regular basis and aerate the water as the parents do with their fins. Basically you become the parents then. I had success this way. The first method didn't quite work for me. Eventually all the eggs were eaten by the parents as they were too tired defending them against the other fishes in the tank.

Congrats! Hope to see an update on this....

Congratulations on the breeding. I just started breeding flowerhorns not too long ago after a lot of trial and error. I mean a lot. I had a really hard time pairing them up and wasted quite a bit of money too. The mothers instinct will take over and she'll eat the bad ones. Now I just remove the male after he's done fertilizing. Once they hatch the mother figures out that obviously white eggs are bad. The female will find a nice hiding corner for the frys. Actually my fry survival rate has increased quite a bit now that I leave the frys with the mom until a couple weeks when her tube sticks out again. Infact I just got frys that hatched this morning, when I woke up. Once you get a good pair they'll breed like crazy especially ZZ/RD type flowerhorns. Not sure about Kamfas and Kamfa mixes though.

I agree leave the female...I tried both FH but the eggs went bad....next I will leave only the female...when I took out the female almost instantly the male started to clean off the plate....I was told to leave the male....but i think I'm gonna have to let mama take care of the eggs next....
After a week your male will be ready to breed again but Ur female will need a few weeks to get ready to drop eggs till then Ur male will get upset with Ur female cuz she's not dropin eggs..so becareful

thanks everyone for all the info. next time i breed i will make sure to keep female with eggs instead of male.. a few questions. any reason why the male isnt removing the white dead fungus eggs? should i take a small airline tube and siphon the dead ones out???? also is it normal to lose so many eggs.from yesterday to today i have about 90 eggs that turned white and the rest are a clear-ish color. are they fertile?

good going dont worry all will be fine mine are also ready but dont know y they are not breeding my female is loaded with eggs but not dropping it :(

Maybe better luck next time.. Half way through the 2nd night the male ate all of the eggs, i woke up and they were gone. I will for sure be hatching the eggs myself instead of leaving them in thier with the parents.
