You needed to put it horizontal and put a power head infront so it gets oxygen. It will suffocate if it is vertical.

Yeah, that's why most people recommend getting aros at 6-7 inches if possible, or keeping them alone until then. The young ones are delicate and get stressed to death way too easily. Sorry for your loss. :(
