My male festae is a vagina. He hides constantly and is the least aggressive fish ive ever owned. Can someone give me tips to make him more aggressive.

how old is the fish? what are its tankmates and what size is the aquarium? festae arent the most agressive fish at a young age. stress can cause them to hide and be timid at times. what size are the other fish thery are housed with? is the festae the newest addition to the aquarium? you cant just teach a fish agression either. using feeders, other live food, will hone a fishes hunting or striking skills but will also hone every other fishes in the tank. without knowing your set up id say add more line of sight breakers in the tank. rocks, driftwood, slate...

You can't just buy a cichlid and expect it to be aggressive. I've owned several festae before and almost all of them were quite peaceful and outgoing. The aggressive ones I have had were mean as heck but would get punked every time a fish fights back.

If you want a psychotic fish, buy a dovii or umbee. Festae IMO are for show, not a wetpet or monster fish.

Thanks for the insight. He is abt 5-6" and he is in a 125 with a 3" male unfaded red texas. He will mess with the texas but if the texas gets pissed he sends the rt into hiding. Im used to fh aggression and red devils.

:hitting: your 5-6 inch festae runs from a 3 inch red texas, embarrassing lol.

I personally wouldn't compare a festae's aggression to a flowerhorns or red devils aggression. Festae are more territorial than aggressive.

How long has the Festae been in that tank? Is it a new arrival? Many aggressive fish, no matter their size, will be a bit docile when first introduced. If this is the case give him time to adjust and the Festae will be more outgoing and assertive. Festae can be very aggressive. Hopefully yours will be more confident than aggressive over time. That will make it easier to keep with tankmates. I doubt it will put up with a challenging small tankmate for too long. But individual personalities can break the norm sometimes.

Hes the original fish in the tank had him since abt 4". The texas has only been there a month

the best option would be to go get a female, on top of being amazingly gorgeous if they pair up like mine did they took over a good third of a 350 with a pair of 12" dovii, a 14" male umbee, a pair of 8" five star generals, a pair of 11" jags and a 7" male flowerhorn
