The last couple of days have been hell for me. I found out a day or so agon both my hogs are developing a nasty case of ich. Both fish have just laid eggs and I do not want to remove them so I left them in the tank. They are swimming around and look fine but both male and female are riddled with white dots. I have bumped the temps up to about 88. Is that ok? I also read that I should add 2 teaspoons of aquarium salt per gallon. Is that righ? I have is dissolving in a bucket now.

Not only that but I woke up to find my centrarchus male has op eye . Years ago one of my black skrit tetras got it and it turned red and the little guy died. I DONT want to loose this guy! Him and his female are currently gaurding a swarming cloud of fry so again I do not want to remove him. Info on the web is vast and vague on this so any help would be great. The male is acting fine as well and being a great dad. He is in a 29 with his mate and fry. This tank has been getting water changes every other day I don't know how this happened.

For the hogas just bump the temp to 89 F and keep it there for 15 days. They are perfectly capable of handling up to 90 degrees for a few weeks. 90% of the times that get rids of ich without using salt ime.

Naturally you will see an increase in white spots with the higher temperature in the first couple of days, but then it will start disappearing. Keep temperature up for 15 days EVEN if your fish has no visible spots. Ich has many life stages (most of which you can't see) so even if your fish has no spots the Ich might still be in the system.

Since the centrarchus only has one affected eye it might just be an injury. But if it's indeed an infection (pop eye) you can treat with Maracyn Tetracycline (Maracyn-TC), available at most LFS.

Thanks your the greatest. The temp is hot for the hogs an ill watch my cents. Thanks again.

Sorry to hear about the high but you seem to be doing everything right. I think they will be fine

Thanks, I am hopeful they will pull through. They chose a hell of a time to be sick though.

There is a school of thought that once fish get ick they never get it again like chicken pox. Good luck to you and your fish!

good luck. Try fin rot med for the Hoga, and lots of water change for the popeyed hrp. good luck. Do what's needed ASAP

I kinda believe this because I have a pike that got severe stroke ich and I was able to cure him and he hasn't had it since and he has been in some stressful situations

Thank you. I am not too worried about the hogs, many fish heal from ich. I am worried about the cents though. I am praying that pop eye goes away.

Why fin rot med for the hogs? And they are centrarchus not HRP :).

I have never had a fish with ich so I was suprised when these guys got it. It does make sens because I have been stressing them out moving things in the tank and what not their first week. But they obviously were not the stressed becasue they spawned. What is wierd is the male seems to be trying to get the female to spawn in one of my larger pots(the one they were supposed to spawn in). Strange fish.
