Please help: Sick mangrove jack

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well, if it wasn't a trauma related issue; maybe a internal bacterial or GI issue. Post a pic of actual fish/parameters and maybe some else will chime in because i'm out of ideas.

Yeah no worries mate. I appreciate you taking the time to provide some advice and suggestions. If it was due to the water quality in the tank than you would think the other fish would be showing the same symptoms. It's definatkey not the water. He must of wacked itself on a rock or drift wood.

Im just going to drop some more salt in the tank before I go to bed and hope for the best!

As mangrove jack age, most spend less and less time in fresh water, moving to straight sea water, far out in the ocean.
Depending on the variant yours is, your may have come to the time, where fresh water is no longer healthy, so the idea that you had about putting it in a separate tank with brackish water might be needed. But not simply as a dip, but for life time.

I just woke up and went and checked up on him and he is still alive, but also in a lot worse state. He is laying on his back on the sand still gasping rapidly and looks like his tale is cramped up. Think its only a matter of time before he dies. This really sucks he was turning out to be a relly good fish and who knows when I will ever get the chance to buy another mangrove jack. I paid a lot of money for him due to where I live and how rare they are around here. Not to mention I recently bought an 8x2x3 tank set up to move him into once he out grew his tank mates
