Please help stock my new 220gal.

Ok. It seems like Viejas, Red Terrors, and Parachromis are the consensus. But I have a few questions. Would having more than one Vieja lead to fights between them? I doubt I could pull off a pair of Red Terrors in there. So would two of the same sex work or would one lone RT be best? One more thing, with the potential sizes of these various fish, would about 4-5 be the limit for the big boys?

I have a 220 stocked with a male and female festae, a white male and two red female midas, and two channel cats (1-reg 1-albino). Tank looks good with no aggression problems(yet). The cats are very very active and stir things up alot. they won't let the cichlids breed. I think that is why I have had sucess so far.

I really don't want a bunch of breeding pairs. That scenario always leads to trouble with cichlids. Maybe one pair of some kind would be ok. But I think I will be better off with single specimens. That being said, I know from experience how willing cichlids can be for cross-species breeding.

i think you should keep a festae pair in your 120 by themselves and then add one of your extra non-paired ones to the big tank (search VRWC post on his festae, his tank is 260 and when they spawned they still took out everyone in one night!!) and yeah an argentea would be SWEET as well, and def +1 on a really cool large growing/colorful pleco, or some cool bichirs for bottom dwellers

If i was in ur situation.. I would prefer a pair of Red terror over Vieja...

Vieja are nice.. but sometimes.. their colors dont come out too nicely.. depending on the speices u get.. Red terror however, both male and female are equally as nice..

I'm going to a new LFS tomorrow that I heard is loaded with cichlids. I will go in with a list of all the cichlids that everyone has suggested. Hopefully they will have some nice specimens. If not, I have a local fail-safe. I'm pretty sure that one of my male Festaes will be one of the additions to the 220. I hope I find some good looking Viejas tomorrow too. I have a lot of pick ups to find to fill my stock. Keep up the advice if anyone has anything else to add. Thanks everyone!
