Please help to id this ray

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
marble motoros come in all different designs, the give away is the HUGE spots on its back, that isnt normal for a motoro, do a quick google search of marble motoros, you can see the designs inbetween the spots, they are normally thin and black, this one seems to be the other way around with a darker base and lighter lines

Thanks very much!! I guess I'll just have to take good care of him and see how he turns out.

where did u get it from? could be marbled, if it was captive bred, I would say hybrid..... but i would feed that thing right away

I agree!! theres something not quite right, the spots are huge and the body very ornate for such a young fish......lovely ray though, if you can get it eating well it should make a beauty.......good luck with it!

SP ray.... it has marbled in its blood it looks but what the other parent was or is god only knows.... nice ray though should turn out very nice... get some serious power feeding into it to fatten it up...

Thank you! Acctually the ray is feeding quite agressively allready now after a week in my home, what's holding me back is that I was told to be very careful of feeding too much the first weeks/month as that could lead to ray getting sick and die on me. From your experience, is it ok to feed as much a the small ray wants to eat allready now? I'm also eager to pump this fellow up quickly :grinno:

yes feed it how much it wants... you will see when it is full that rays needs some good feeding fatten it up and get it growing im curious to see it in 6 months time...

allright, I will step up the feeding regime, and keep posting this buggers development here. Thanks for all the commentsand advise.

no problem...as it is eating try throwing some other foods in the mix with what ever it is eating might help get it on other foods quicker

Good idea!,try the small pellets from Hikari (Carnivore pellets) ive had amazing growth with this food, all the ingredients are in there for optimum development.Rays only eat as much as they can stomach, keep it on a glass bottom so that you can syphon off any food thats discarded.

Now that I look at it again, yes I do agree that some of the spots on the back are rather large for a motoro.

I also see that you are in China, most likely an SP as Asia is a breeding ground for hybrids.

Good luck with him, I am sure it will be a beauty!!!
