take off the top frame have a center brace welded in put back on. cover with glass , no plexy it will bow big time
Not sure how easy ripping the frame off will be....seems like an expensive can of worms.....If I wanted to spend the money I would have bought a shiny new tank! farming out the frame work.....I have no TIG welder for aluminum.....will cost more than the tank and stand!

i would just wait until you can either build a canopy or find one to fit it, that seems like it would be the best looking and most secure option.

and by the way i wouldnt leave the tank resting on that pallet thing like it is, it isnt good for the whole weight of the tank to just be resting on the middle of the bottom glass like that, if you have two of them you could put one at each end so the weight is on the outer edges but i see it possibly straining the glass or even breaking with it all in the middle like that

if you just want to have a glass lid, you can make your own inside lip for the tank by using some small L shaped aluminum extrusions. I know you can buy some at home depot or lowes, they are next to other aluminum and steel pieces. take some sand paper and rough up the connecting sides and glue the L shape all around the inside of the rim. this should give you then the support and then you can just get sheets of glass from HD as well.

I actually began to make those brackets.....Then I realized the center brace would interfere....This is what I came up with......built a canopy. The glass top will sit 1.5" above the tank in the canopy. I am picking up the marineland lid today.....let you know if it fits!

No doubt! The stand is 30", tank is 36" with the stand and canopy! i will have a step ladder handy!

Exactly 1.5 inches of space for lighting inside!! Well ventilated with a 3" opening along the entire back of the canopy.....little more primer to protect the exposed wood and its done!
