Please help with ID cool mystery fish

Nah. It is for sure a black.

I have some yellows with very defined stripes like my blacks just instead of white the surrounding scales are yellow

Right, I understand where you are coming from but a yellow would have yellow in the fins. Especially the dorsal. This one here is black all the way around the fins.

I think it's Altolamprologus calvus or possibly Altolamprologus compressiceps, relatives. Same genus anyway but probably black calvus.

Those in my limited experence grow painfully slow so looks like you got a good one.

Atleast mine did, I had a few juvi's once that thought they were shellies.

My baby fronts grew quick and the calvus were still dinky and kept craming themselfs into snail shells I had left over.

I ended up giving them away.

Yeah your right i wasn't paying attention the top fin is much too dark

On a side note, is that a Satanoperca you have there in the first picture?!? I cannot believe you're keeping that fish in an African setup.

Also you have him with mbuna, not really the best tank mates for calvus,
