Good info does actually exist elsewhere and it is not that us from elsewhere do not help you (MFK) out to fill in gaps all the time .. If you remove the Polypterus's from this forum and this subject you are sentencing it to death by stupidity...You have no actual expert staff or individuals that can handle Gar related information (Jordan however as a CLO member should be taking our place very soon on here) You should be thanking us for taking the time to help MFK members on most of these gar related issues.

Average size for a Spotted in captivity is around 2 foot, Plus or minus a few inches, Therefore the tank size should be long and wide for an adult fish. Water depth is not a big concern. Smaller spotted gar do best in smaller sized tanks...The trick with gar is to slowly raise the tank size as the fish grows.
Feeding is generally quite easy and these fish can be given a variety of Frozen, prepared and live foods. I highly suggest feeding a wide variety rather than just one or two items.
Temp is not critical and can range from 65 to 80 with a desired temp around 75...
