What kind of Liner should i put between the actual .45mm EPDM liner and the dirt that it goes ontop of. Newspapers? Garbage bags? Please Help.

Home Depot sells a underlayment for ponds. It is almost like a thick wool material. You could use old blankets, some burlap, or some batting from a fabric shop. I did not use anything under my liner. We have nice red clay here and I smoothed it out and made sure there was not rocks in it. It has held water for over 2 years now.
Carpet store remnants, sand, newspaper are cheap methods. I like pond underlayment. It is a woven material, much like very thick landscape fabric. Pretty cheap as well.
