Bichirs can be very territorial. Click on my bichir fight video below and you'll see. They were lip lock like betta fighting. I think your bichirs will be fine as long as you're not seeing biting. Then again I have seen bichirs "fight" and they do bite each other.
There is no biting involved though, he simply throws himself on the little one and "head bangs".
