Is he flashing? it looks like he is scratching himself on aquarium decor... if this is the case you most likely have a parasite. but you haven't mention anything in your descriptions which leads me to think there are no visual symptoms?

No he isn't flashing, he just seems really energetic, and ive had all of these fish between 8 months-4 yrs. i am currently taking the tank and scrubbing it down. They have been in a rubbermaid since yesterday it has an airstone, and my spare filter on it. I read adding salt and raising the temp could help should i try that or is it just a waste of time.?

Unfrotunately without more information it is impossible to tell what it could be. My first recomendation would be to get a API liquid test kit as the strips are almost always wrong.

As far as things you can try aerate the tank more, do small water changes twice a week, add some aquarium salt according to directions and try to observe any weird behaviors.

I have been doing a liquid test its made by red sea... i dont know if its a good brand or what if there is a different one i should buy where can i find them?

i have just noticed another one of my fish acting weird, he is usually energetic, and now he is swimming at the top of the water like he is trying to get air.

i turned up the heat a little bit and added more salt and they seem to be acting better so hopefully it will keep up this way and i can get the back to the tank in the next day or so.
