Ok heres my situation, i purchased 2 altums from a breeder on aquabid. when they arrived today they had red at the base of their fins, which i thought was a bacterial infection, so i added tetracycline to my tank. I emailed him and he said it is just stress from shipping because he has seen it happen before. Now i am worried that i just destroyed my good bacteria in my tank, will my tank go into another cycle or will it be ok? Should i add some filter media from another one of tanks? btw i just did a 50 percent wc

Only you can answer your question through testing for ammonia and nitrite. Keep up with water changes, and adding bacteria from an established tank might be a good idea, especially if you see a spike in ammonia or nitrite.

If the parameters are good on another tank and you are sure there arent any bugs that might carry over, you can add media from another tank. Just remember that if you DO introduce parasites, you'll be doing so to fish that are already stressed. How long did you run meds for?

Personally, I'd monitor my ammonia several times a day and if it comes up at all to measureable amounts, add the media then.

thank for quick replies, i only had it in there for 22 hours before i did a 50% water change.....ammonia is .25 ppm nitrtite 0 ppm, so i did another 50% wc...will do another 25% wc later tonight then test it again
